Heart disease is one of the leading causes of deaths in the United States. A healthy heart is a key to a healthy life. We should take steps to prevent heart conditions and diseases as much as possible. Heart conditions can be caused by various factors, including, but not limited to:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Excessive alcohol intake
  • Stress and many more

There are many kinds of heart conditions and heart diseases, in this article, we will discuss some of the most common ones.

  • Heart Attack.
This often occurs as a result of Coronary Heart Disease. Heart attacks happen when one of our arteries are completely clogged, blocking the blood supply to the heart. These clogs are caused by blood clots which are also caused by plaque or fat build up. Prevent heart attacks with regular exercise and a balanced diet.
  • Heart arrhythmia.
This happens when our hearts beat irregularly. The normal resting rate of our hearts is around 60 to 100 beats a minute. We experience arrhythmia when our hearts beat irregularly, either beating too slowly or too fast. Irregular heartbeats can be caused by drug use, smoking, excessive intake of caffeine, soda, and alcohol. A proper diet and exercise can help prevent irregular arrhythmia. In more serious cases the doctor may suggest the use of a pacemaker. A pacemaker monitors the rhythm of the heart and corrects any irregularities.
  • Hypertension.
It is more commonly known as high blood pressure, is not a disease per se but is the underlying cause of many heart conditions. High blood pressure is when the force of the blood flowing against our arteries and blood vessels is higher than normal, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The risk factors for high blood pressure include poor diets, lack of exercise, age, excessive smoking and alcohol consumption, obesity and overweight, and stress.
